A DONEFOR show is something you don't want to miss. The band stopped in Richmond, VA, on March 18th on the Southern Shuffle Tour. They played the Canal Club alongside Create Control, Lament, and Laywaste. There was a mix of listeners, with a few familiar fans at their VIP, from previous shows, and online. DONEFOR made sure fans didn’t go unnoticed.
With a crowd of around 60 people, the night was intimate but only amplified what makes the band stand out. Before the set started, during VIP, they had asked something that seemed so simple: what condiment would you bring to a desert island…choose wisely, going from queso to beer (which counts in some way?). Things were definitely kept interesting.
Someone even came with custom stickers and a handheld fan with the band's logo. It’s moments like these that truly capture the community DONEFOR has built in the scene.
The music starts and switches to pure energy. Some may say DONEFOR is chaotic to the core in the best way. We already know and love the “ADHD-core” they have been known for, adding as many genres as possible to their music.
Their personality brings as much impact as their music. After saying they had gone out for St. Patrick’s Day, asking the crowd who else had, only for *silence to fill the room, making a light-hearted joke out of it, saying “give it up for being unemployed on a Tuesday.”
Calling for an all-girls mosh pit that turned into more of a carefree time of the night, even young ones added to the show's awesome vibe (we need more of that in the scene).
There were also moments of vulnerability. Riley Stewart dedicated one of their most recent releases, “The Tide,” to his late grandfather, reminding everyone of something more personal and showing that grief is complex but nothing to be ashamed of.
TOP8’s Take?
As you know, DONEFOR is easily one of our fave acts on the rise at the moment (read our previous interview with them here), and that’s no secret; they continue to prove how genuine and hardworking they are. If there’s a band to support, it’s them. Go check them out on the Southern Shuffle Tour
