Meet Me @ the Altar took Richmond, VA by storm at the Richmond City Music Hall on March 9th during their Worried Sick tour (named after their latest EP released in December) alongside Pollyanna. The show was originally scheduled for January but was postponed due to weather troubles, but that didn’t stop fans from packing the venue and bringing their energy.
The band opened their set with their angsty pop-punk track Dead To Me, immediately getting the crowd moving, the bass ripping through the speakers during an extremely high-energy performance, which is exactly what we expected from such a high-energy band like them.
At one point during their set, Meet Me @ the Altar took a moment to bring up something bigger than the music: the lack of diversity in the alternative scene. They emphasized the importance of having not only women in the scene but also women of color in the scene. The crowd backed every word, proving just how much the message resonated.
The show felt like a hangout session; their interactions with the crowd made everything feel personal and inclusive. In our opinion, a super important part of the ALT scene is feeling like we are all a part of one big community of love and acceptance, which we definitely need more of in today's world. To be able to go to a show where everyone can vibe together and enjoy themselves in a safe space, no matter who you are, is something that makes this scene so unique. That is Meet Me @ the Altar to the core.
Song-wise? They played fan favorites like Hit Like a Girl, Say It (To My Face), and ended the night with
Kool. There were no misses in the set; the entire show itself was a vibe.
TOP8’s take?
The scene is very lucky to have a band like Meet Me at the Altar. Not only do they have some of the greatest new pop-punk bangers, they also show up, speak up, and absolutely rip on stage. Go stream Worried Sick.
