Southern California emo faves NVM, ILY are officially entering their newest era with the release of their new single, 'Distractions.' Alongside the track’s release, the band has also revealed the first look at the upcoming EP, Mexican American Blue. If there’s one thing we know well, it’s that this will be on repeat until the wheels fall off.

TOP8 Scene and NVM, ILY are giving you an exclusive look at the behind-the-scenes of the record, ahead of its official release on September 9th.
Described by frontman Gerald Cerda as “a collection of songs depicting the life and struggles of the Mexican American no sabo emo,” the project blends emotional vulnerability with cultural identity, offering a perspective that still feels underrepresented in the alternative scene. The title itself pulls inspiration from both emotion and history, referencing the iconic blue pigment historically used throughout Mayan culture.
'Distractions' acts as the first step into that world, playing on anxious overthinking, the track captures the feeling of spiraling internally while trying to hold onto connection, delivering some of the band’s most vulnerable lyrics yet, all while giving listeners a classic nostalgic pop-punk sound that NVM, ILY always comes through with.
