If you’re looking for your next, from New Jersey to Nashville, Reece Young has made a name for himself and is diving in full force with his latest drop, released on April 20th, Nothing At All. He recently signed to Oxide Music, and with all of this exciting news, this is only the start of something bigger for him.
Reece explains he is extremely grateful for this new chapter. “My career thus far has been defined by the decisions of others. Others that didn’t really care about me. They didn’t care for the untapped potential. Oxide defines that narrative. Never have I felt this supported. I’m truly so excited and humbled that the Oxide family took a chance on me. It feels like I’m finally home, and I’m so glad we’re finally getting started.”
It feels like this: Reece is doing something for himself the way he wants to, which is exactly what the alternative scene has been and will always be about, point blank. Nothing At All proves that he is finally making songs that make sense to him rather than what is expected. It’s no surprise that his heart is in the right place when it comes to music, his taste ranging from new metal to alt-pop, which shows how diverse he can be. He is inspired by familiar names like Bring Me The Horizon, Twenty One Pilots, Jon Bellion, and most importantly, his cat ‘Socks’ because no great artist starts without giving credit to their animals.
It’s a fresh era for Reece, and we know it’s only going to get better. This new release speaks all the emotion you’d expect, but is a fun-sounding project full of life. It’s one that we can all relate to in our everyday lives as we try to escape the heavy moments we all deal with. There’s an emotional numbness to the track with lyrics hitting upon themes of exhaustion: “I don't wanna die, but I wouldn’t mind it, I hope you’re alright if you don't hear from me.” This track gives a lasting effect, lyrically, its repeating chorus is one that will live in your head rent-free.
TOP8’s Take:
Reece Young is dedicated and can't be stopped, and is turning the concept of pain around. One thing that’s hard? Making room for growth, but music is that outlet that can help us all do that, whether it's listening to it or creating it, to us, that’s exactly what this track is, taking emotions and making room to grow.
In our opinion, Nothing At All is a perfect addition to your emo-coded playlists. It sits in the alt-pop lane, but the heavier guitar moments hit, giving it that edge we all love, plus? The lyrics slap. It’s the kind of song that will sneak up on you when you least expect it, and it's more than catchy but doesn’t try too hard. Nothing At All will live in your head longer than you expect. We’ve already caught ourselves in the loop of singing “I don’t f—— with nothing at all” more times than we’d like to admit.
The vocals are crisp and are a standout in the track, especially with the instrumentals staying minimal. The sound builds up at times, but pulls back just as intentionally, going from a soft, cool vibe to bringing the energy. Nothing At All is already shaping up to be one of those songs we’ll keep coming back to all summer, and one thing we know? Reece brings a standout energy to the scene.
