FEELINGS TAKING
CENTER STAGE
Canadian indie singer Addie John continues to capture the hearts of many
including those of the Canadian music industry and, of course, ours.

In his latest release, “These Walls” (a must-listen for fans of City and Colour), he shows his vulnerability through strong, emotionally charged songwriting, on top of a diverse discography that includes heartfelt tracks and more energetic rock songs. Addi John is clearly an artist worth bragging about. Formerly in the band Lost in Japan, Addi is showcasing his talents with this new project, and we’re here for it.
"These Walls" is a new chapter for Addi John. He pours himself into this track both sonically and emotionally. The song stems from a heavier time in his life, and instead of hiding those emotions, he turned something heartbreaking into something relatable. The song also stems from a place of feeling alone, even when you’re in a room full of people, including those closest to you.

"I’m speaking to myself almost in a blaming way, accusing that this feeling is because of the hypothetical walls I put up, so I don’t let people in.” Addi explains, with lyrics such as “I wanted to love you, I didn't know you cared,” showcasing the strength and courage to even release these internal feelings. “These Walls” is a reflection on what it means to feel deeply, touching on grief, being vulnerable, and what it is to be human.

Musically, “These Walls” is a beautiful track, starting acoustically and setting the indie vibe of Addi John. It pulls you in with its calming sound paired with pleasing vocals that you’ll want to listen to on repeat. The song picks up perfectly after the first chorus, transitioning smoothly between the already acoustic track and a full-band vibe. You don’t expect those instruments to hit, but when they do, you understand the intention. The fuller sound makes you feel the intensity of what you’re listening to; it picks up the song purposely, before slowing it back down, almost as if you’re feeling a rollercoaster of emotions.

This track speaks directly to listeners, with lyrics like “Time goes by, I wish I was there beside you, but I've been gone for so damn long, and your trust in me is gone,” tugging at your (broken) heartstrings.
