Welcome To The Jeniverse: Interview

The Princess of Rock is reviving the '90s & y2k vibes we’ve been missing.

Picture this. It's 2002, you're in your car blasting music, a cool new song comes on, and life is good. Then you snap back to reality and realize we're actually approaching 2026.

The first time jeniverse played through our speakers, we were instantly hit with a wave of raw, nostalgic-sounding bangers, the kind we’ve been begging would make a comeback. With tracks like anything u want and shut up, she doesn’t just play on those sounds; she is full-on rebooting them.

Her sound comes in swinging with that late ‘90s grungey-rock-grit, a punchy 2000s nu-metal feel, while adding in a sprinkle of pop. This is some of the coolest music we’ve heard in a long time. Her latest release, FREAK OF NATURE (on repeat over here), just proved she’s becoming an expert at pulling the best parts of the decades we love, but still making her sound fit in the 2020s.

Unpacking the mix of influences that are helping shape a new era of rock:

Her sound is fresh, and her inspirations hit just as hard. From jazz to metal, we got the 411 on the fave artists behind your new fave artist. Here’s jeniverse’s TOP8:

TOP8 PICKS

Diving deeper into her picks, jeniverse shares what makes these artists influential to her

Here’s what she had to say about all of her picks:

MAX MARTIN: He is the greatest of our time. best to ever do it. I could probably do a good job running his fan club at this point.

MICHAEL JACKSON:  He inspired me a lot as a young girl pursuing music. I loved his swag; it’s incredible to see something so original and so spectacular. In my own performances, I used to wear fedora hats because I loved him that much. There will never be another like Michael.

LADY GAGA: She is the epitome of what I think an artist should be. She is a visionary. I think of all the things she did early in her career, the meat dress, the VMAs performance, the iconic show in the IKEA parking lot. I admire her hustle. And at the heart of everything she has done, she has big epic records that are timeless. Her music will transcend culture for many years to come, I think.

HEART: Growing up being a part of different rock bands, I used to study the greats of classic rock. Nancy and Ann Wilson really made a lasting impression on me. I got to see them perform live when they came to my city. Ann looking me in my eyes made me scream my head off.

BILLY IDOL: My mom was a big fan of Billy Idol, which is something she passed down to me. I liked a lot about him. I think his rock star persona is something I have always liked the most. I think he really embodies what the rock n roll spirit feels like to me. effortless, wild, and insanely cool. If you saw him on the street, you would be fascinated.

CAB CALLOWAY: This one feels random, but I am crediting him to being the precursor to so much of today's music. he was a jazz singer from the 30s, one of the greatest entertainers of his time. I have always deeply admired a true, well-rounded entertainer. To think of how long ago this was and the level of showmanship he had, it is wild. His impact goes miles and miles beyond his lifetime.

OZZY OSBOURNE:  A true legend, I always get chills listening to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. There is a certain feeling you get when you listen to those songs that’s just insanely cool. I am really influenced by that feeling and want to emulate it myself.

PIERCE THE VEIL: I found out about Pierce the Veil in high school; it scared my friends that I listened to such heavy music, and I found that so funny. Their album “Collide with the Sky” was my intro into heavier music, and that was the beginning of my personal music taste becoming something I truly loved.

In our opinion? That’s a solid TOP8, and it covers all of the different bases that make jeniverse, jeniverse. These picks showcase her love for music as a whole, and you can tell she's in this for the love of the craft.

What’s next for our favorite up-and-comer?

JENIVERSE: Fans can expect that I will be dropping so much more music. With this next project, I wanted the music to feel electric, like a rush of adrenaline. I am so excited to be part of this next era of rock music.

We’re just as excited to see what this new era brings.

We know whatever she comes out with next will 100% be in our TOP8.
