The Devil Wears Prada Turns San Antonio Into a Time Machine on the Flowers Tour
Music has a way of transporting you back in time, when things were simpler and time felt like it didn’t exist. This is what it felt like to be at the Devil Wears Prada in 2026. Part of me felt like the timeline was healing itself. To once again see Scene/Emo kids moshing, singing, and crying together felt like how it used to be. Gone are my days as an emo kid, who used to wear skin-tight skinny jeans in 98-degree weather; it felt like I was passing the torch to the next generation of kids who are trying to find their place in the world. The one thing that has remained is my playlist from Warped Tour 2010.
When I hear “metalcore,” a few bands come to mind, and The Devil Wears Prada is one of them. For over 20 years, they have defined the genre and have truly become era-defining. Generations of fans were here to experience the Flowers tour.
With a stacked lineup of openers, consisting of I Promise the World, Split Chain, and Four Years Strong ( I haven’t seen them since “In Some Way, Shape, or Form” released in 2011), you immediately knew this was going to be a show you couldn’t miss. Split Chain, an English band from Bristol, was quite a surprise. With a sound similar to the nu-metal of the early 2000s mixed with some shoegaze, the crowd was here for it. This was the beginning of the crowd surfer madness that ensued by the time The Devil Wears Prada took the stage. As Kyle and Mike said, “I want to see how many people can cross this barricade, let’s see these big guys catch you at the front!”
The Devil Wears Prada played a 20-song set full of a good mix of songs old and new, ending with “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” A personal favorite of mine off “Flowers” is “Play the Old Shit.” I love how bands can release a song like this because, like many fans, I have been to a show and have complained that said band didn’t play any songs from their old albums.
Even after growing sonically and modernizing with the times, TDWP continues to prove their longevity in the metalcore and alt scene.
