Just Dropped: Kiss the Scientist's new single 'Life You Want'.
If you know TOP8 Scene, you know we're big on Californian alternative/emo band Kiss the Scientist.
The trio—Max Tomack (vocals, guitar), Devin Rodriguez (keys, guitar), and Nick Anoci (drums)—has been taking the scene by storm, boasting more than 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify while building a massive online following through Max's Midwest emo takes on popular tracks like PinkPantheress' "Just for Me" and Addison Rae's "Fame Is a Gun."
We’ve said it before: the EP they dropped in March, Better in My Head, has been one of our favorite releases of the year so far, including bangers like ‘Smile’ and ‘I Gave You $10 to Buy Pringles, but You Didn’t Give Me Change Back (Pringles Aren’t $10)’. The EP has proved that Kiss the Scientist has cemented their way into becoming one of the most exciting fresh faces in the scene, and now they’re feeding us again with their new release, ‘Life You Want’.
Frontman Max shares:
"‘Life You Want’ started as most other songs do, as a demo I made in my garage about navigating one of many aspects of life at 23-25 years old. Feeling inspired by relationships and the weight of being a young adult, ‘Life You Want’, to me, is the idea of, "I can't stop thinking about this person. I absolutely NEED this person. What am I gonna do to make sure I have them by my side forever?”
The drop has an impressive creative team behind it that helped nail the essence of Kiss the Scientist at its core. ‘Life You Want’ was produced by Matt Wiggers, features drums recorded by Kyle Black (Paramore, New Found Glory), mixed by Vince Ratti (Tigers Jaw, Title Fight, The Menzingers), and mastered by Adam Cichocki (Snarls, Casey).
From the very first listen, we became hooked. ‘Life You Want’ is a release that tugs at the heartstrings, pairing raw, emotionally charged vocals with lyrics that hit you deep in the feels, like, “I’d pack our shit up and run, if that’s the life that you want.” It truly captures everything we've come to love about Kiss the Scientist's sound, but with something extra. Every single decision during the recording of this track has purpose, and the final product feels nothing but genuine.
TOP8’S TAKE:
We have a feeling Kiss the Scientist is about to become your new favorite band. You know they’ve already become one of ours, and ‘Life You Want’ is another reminder of why they're one of the most exciting names in the emo scene right now. If this single is any indication of what's next, the future is incredibly bright. Keep them on your radar; you definitely won't regret it.
