New Album: Time Spent Driving – Lost Leaves – Out August 21st.

The late '90s and early 2000s emo revival keeps getting better. August can't come fast enough because Santa Cruz staples Time Spent Driving are officially back with their fourth full-length album, Lost Leaves, which will be released later that month. If you know us, you know this is some of the most exciting news we've heard all year.

Giving fans their first taste of what's to come, the band has dropped the album's lead double single,

'Weak Arm' and 'December.' While the two tracks take on different stories, they both revolve around the growth that comes with change while finding your way through life during the heavier moments. "Weak Arm’ is inspired by anyone in your life that's holding you back from your dreams or slowing you down.” Frontman Jon Cattivera shares. The track plays on the theme of choosing to surround yourself with the people who lift you up.

'December' was the first track written for the album. The song is about the transformation that shaped the direction of the album. "It's about an early psychedelic experience down in Big Sur a couple years ago in December, which is also my birthday. My wife likes to remind me that I'm a Capricorn with a Pisces rising. She's big into that stuff, and it turns out it's pretty damn accurate.”

More than 25 years after forming, Time Spent Driving isn't looking to recreate the past; they're taking what they already have and building on it. Lost Leaves is set to capture everything fans have loved about the band from the beginning, especially when it comes to the kind of honesty that sticks with you long after the record ends, while still pushing their sound into new territory.

A period of inspiration is what drove the album's creation, and it was recorded between 2023 and 2024, with production handled by Olav Tabatabai alongside vocalist and guitarist Jon Cattivera. It also features guest appearances from friends across the scene, including members of Fighting Jacks, Cutlass Supreme, Finch (we're more than excited for this), Favez, and Merit.

As if a new album wasn't enough, Time Spent Driving have also confirmed they'll be returning to the stage later this year, making Lost Leaves feel like the start of an exciting new era for the band.

Lost Leaves arrives August 21, which you can pre-order here. 'Weak Arm' and 'December' are available to stream now. Spin it.
