If you don’t know now, you do. Toronto three-piece The Human Drive definitely haven’t lost their way and are officially back after a long two-year break, returning louder and better than ever. Their brand-new single, OIL, brings a heavy vibe to your ears, kicking off with Jon Burkholder’s gritty guitar riffs that hook you in right away, along with Josh Wareham’s standout lyrics and Nick Blues' impactful drums.
The result is a track that feels explosive but intentional. Hitting on some important topics about the times we are in today, we can all understand the feeling of frustration and exhaustion, where the world feels like a hamster wheel of events, and we are all kind of waiting for “what’s next,” pretending everything is fine and we have it all figured out.
OIL speaks about being in a state of disbelief about what the world has become, trying to make sense of it all, but not knowing which way to turn next. That overwhelming feeling can be hard to push through sometimes.
Produced/mixed and mastered by Luc Chiasson, OIL is the first of 5 songs releasing this year. With influences ranging from Deftones, Sleep Token, Karnviool, and Bilmuri, it is easy to see they are carrying weight with this one.
Let us tell you, The Human Drive are keeping their foot on the gas because this is only the beginning of some very exciting things in the works. They are also releasing their FIRST ever music video for HALOGEN next month, directed by Matt Guarrasi, you already know it's going to be one to watch.
TOP8's Take?
If OIL is any indication of what’s to come, everyone should be paying close attention to The Human Drive. Stepping away for a while may have been difficult, but they’re back and better than ever. Not only do they bring an exciting vibe, but they also bring that extra confidence and drive (get it?), which I'm sure we all can agree is an important stepping stone in the scene.
Keep an eye out for upcoming shows this summer and more new music; trust us, you do not want to sleep on it.
